Sammy Blackbear is one of the most outspoken critics of the Skull Valley Band's decision to sign a contract with Private Fuel Storage for the temporary storage of nuclear waste on the Band's reservation lands.

Opposition to the contract within the Band, while identifiable, is difficult to quantify. In May 2001, 18 members of the Skull Valley Band joined a lawsuit challenging the contract with PFS.

Blackbear was interviewed on the Skull Valley reservation, at a point overlooking the proposed site for the radioactive waste storage facility, by program Producer Ken Verdoia.

What It Means To You,
To Belong to the Being Human Party

In its largest sense, the Being Human Party is a journey of exploration.

We are global citizens exploring what it means to be human and inhabit a single planet as a human family.

In this era of the exploration of space, when we look upon our home planet Earth as a single jewel of creation without visible racial, ethnic or political boundaries, we affirm that all creation is one and indivisible and that the human family inhabiting earth alongside the many other species of life is also one and indivisible and interdependent with those species.

Realizing this, we feel a sense of connection with one another and, thus, are led to find avenues by which to express in political, spiritual and ethical terms this sense of connection.

We feel that to be human means to share certain desires and needs such as a life free from want, a nurturing family and local community, personal growth through education and learning, an empowering spiritual orientation and meaningful work or calling. It is upon the realization of these common attributes of human being that we base the vision of this fledgling, global party.

Our mission is to catalyze this new awareness and promote it in terms of new global initiatives for living together peacefully upon this beautiful planet thus giving a realizable and sustainable future to our children and grandchildren.

Consequently, the Being Human Party is about the need to be in community and to overcome peacefully the challenges, which lie in the way.

One of those challenges is the human belief that sometime or other our "hero" will come and make things right.

We will be hired by the right boss, find the political leader who will speak for us or discover the spiritual guru who will give us peace of mind. But what the great "heroes" and "heroines" of every age and culture have told us is that the "hero" is within us.

  Government, whether it is economic, political or spiritual cannot make things happen for us until we realize that we are the government.

Each of us has been given a unique being, which, as it unfolds, bequeaths gifts of talent, ability, personality and character to the rest of the community.

Creating a sense of community is all about realizing our personal gifts of being and offering them alongside all the gifts of everyone else.

This, we believe, is the role of government in the age of the one planet, to create the political agenda where the people regardless of status or wealth, nationality, race, or any other artificial division, may truly be responsible for participating in their own governance through making their unique gifts available to the whole community.


Being Human Party Action Agenda

To these ends the Being Human Party is currently working on six initiatives:

  1.  the "Just Joe" campaign for the United States Senate from Utah
  2. corporate-free candidates and campaigns
  3. a coalition of peace-making organizations NGOs
  4. the Global Peace-Makers
  5. the Being Human Tribe
  6. the "Circle of Truth" exhibit.
